HI everyone,
I thought this book was going to teach us step by step how to become better college students, instead it gives us little inspirational stories about others. Their achievements and setbacks that they had undergone to get where they are now. It was truly inspirational to me.
While reading the first chapter I learned a few things about myself that I could change to become a better student. I am a shy person, an introvert if you will. Its hard for me to speak up or to speak in front of a larger group of people, regardless if its strangers or family members. I learned that I have to try and get out of my shell and interact with others, I could learn a lot by talking to my peers and getting a better insight into others. Learning about others perspective would be a great tool to have because then I will not be stuck in my own mindset but have others as well. I could learn a lot by interacting with others and sharing ideas.
For chapter two I learned about different learning styles and how they can either help or hinder your education. the first was the surface learners, they do the bare minimum just to get by and don't really learn anything. another learner is the strategic learner, they are just looking for a good grade in class. they do all their work and read all the material but it doesn't really stick, they keep the material until they finish the course then it gets erased our of their brains. the third learner is the deep learner, they are able to apply the course material to other aspects of their lives. They are open to learning new ideas and keep an open mind when it comes to gathering new information they are learning.
As far as I'm concerned I must admit that I was/ am a strategic learner. I have to try really hard to get myself out of that mind frame but I also posses qualities that belong to a deep learner. I feel confident that I will be able to become a full deep learner if I set my mind to it.
